Athanasios Dedes
Athanasios Dedes is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics at the University of Ioannina, specializing in Physics of Elementary Particles. His research interests include the Standard Model, LHC and Higgs physics, flavour and neutrino physics, and various physics Beyond the Standard Model such as Effective Field Theories, dark matter and supersymmetry.
Ioannis Strologas
Ioannis Strologas is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics at the University of Ioannina, specializing in Atomic and Molecular Physics, Nuclear Physics, and High-Energy Physics.His research focuses on Experimental High-Energy Physics, particularly with the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. As an active member of the global CMS collaboration, he has made significant contributions to the development of critical systems (such as the Level-1 Trigger System) and the introduction of innovative data acquisition and analysis techniques (e.g., data scouting), which expand the possibilities of discovering “New Physics” beyond the Standard Model. The most impressive aspect of his academic career is the unparalleled international impact of his publications. Mr. Strologas has been officially recognized as one of the most highly influential scientists globally (Highly Cited Researchers). He possesses an extraordinarily high h-index (h>120) and tens of thousands of citations, placing him among an exclusive group of Greek and international researchers with such extensive contributions to modern scientific literature.

Constantinos Fountas
Constantinos Fountas is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Ioannina and the President of the CERN Council. Holding a PhD from Columbia University and with prior academic tenure at Imperial College London, he has an internationally recognized body of work in High Energy Physics and the design of advanced systems for the LHC accelerator, having served as Project Manager for the Trigger system in the CMS experiment. His research, characterized by numerous high-impact publications and a significant h-index, focuses on particle physics, the development of detection systems, and the study of the fundamental interactions of matter.
Leandros Perivolaropoulos
Leandros Perivolaropoulos is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics at the University of Ioannina, specializing in Cosmology, Dark Energy, Gravity, and Field Theory. He obtained his Physics degree from the University of Ioannina (1985) and his Ph.D. from Brown University, USA (1991). He has worked as a researcher at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and MIT, and since 2010, he has held a professorship at the University of Ioannina. He has participated in numerous research programs and has given invited talks at international conferences. His research includes more than 150 scientific papers, over 8,600 citations, and an h-index of 49, with significant contributions to modern cosmology and modified gravity theories.
Emmanouil Benis
Professor Emmanouil Benis is the Head of the Department of Physics at University of Ioannina. He received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Crete. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Kansas State University (USA), and as a postdoctoral researcher and Associated Application Scientist C at Foundation for Research and Technology (Crete), before joining the Department of Physics at University of Ioannina. His research expertise is Experimental Atomic and Molecular Physics with focus on electron dynamics and related processes in interactions of fast highly charged ions and strong laser fields with atoms and molecules. His work includes 96 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, more than 1600 citations, and an h-index of 21 (Scopus). His research is supported by national and international collaborations with Universities and Institutes. He is member of the board for the international conferences “Highly Charged Ions” and “International Symposium on Ion-Atom Collisions”, and deputy Spokesperson for the SPARC Collaboration: “Stored Particles Atomic Physics Research Collaboration”. He is Associate Editor for the journals of “Atoms” and “Frontiers in Physics”, and reviewer in more than 30 scientific journals.
Theocharis Kosmas
Theocharis Kosmas is an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Ioannina. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Ioannina, following postgraduate studies at NCSR “Demokritos”. His academic career includes positions as a Lecturer and Associate Professor at the University of Ioannina, as well as research collaborations in Germany (University of Tübingen and Ruhr University Bochum). His research interests focus on theoretical nuclear and particle physics, with an emphasis on weak interactions, neutrino physics, muon processes, dark matter, and nuclear structure models. He has extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in mathematical and theoretical physics.
Ioannis Bestintzanos
Ioannis Bestintzanos is an applied physicist specializing in High Energy Physics instrumentation. He is currently a fellow at CERN, responsible for designing the next generation electronics for Triggering and Data Acquisition of the CMS experiment. He has designed the Phase-2 Barrel Buon Trigger processor boards (BMT) and has also developed algorithms for FPGAs aiming in identifying rare and exotic physics signatures in real time. His research interests focus on novel low-latency, high-throughput processing architectures.
Andreas Zoupas
Dr. Andreas Zoupas is a physicist specializing in theoretical physics, with research interests in the foundations and interpretations of quantum theory, non-equilibrium statistical physics, general relativity, black holes, quantum gravity, and mathematical physics. He holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College London, a Master of Advanced Study from the University of Cambridge, and a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Athens. He has held research positions at Imperial College London, the University of Chicago’s Enrico Fermi Institute, and the University of Athens. Dr. Zoupas has extensive university-level teaching experience in physics, quantum physics, differential equations, and applied mathematics, and has published in international peer-reviewed journals including Physical Review D and Physics Letters A.
