About ISSEPP

The Ioannina Summer School on Elementary Particle Physics: Theory, Data Analysis & Applications (ISSEPP) is a scientific event organized by our student team, the Physics Society of Ioannina (PSI), in collaboration with the Department of Physics of the University of Ioannina. It is a one-week summer school taking place on campus (Department of physics), focusing on contemporary research in Elementary Particle Physics, including its theoretical framework and the analysis of experimental data. The Summer School is intended for undergraduate students (3rd year and above), postgraduate students, as well as PhD candidates from Departments of Physics. For effective participation, applicants should have a good command of the English language and a background in modern physics.

Selection Process

Once applications close, the Organizing Committee (PSI) will select participants on a first-come, first-served basis, while also ensuring that all academic requirements are met.

Certificate Requirements

Participants who attend at least 80% of the total scheduled hours of the summer school program will automatically be awarded a Certificate of Participation upon its conclusion. No additional application is required to receive this document.

Fees

The Summer School has no participation fee. Optional catering is available for participants who wish to use it at a cost of 32.5€, covering five lunch meals (1/7–5/7). All relevant details can be found in the application form.

Our Goal

The event aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to Elementary Particle Physics, covering both its theoretical foundations and modern methods of data analysis and their applications. Our goal is to offer participants the opportunity to explore cutting-edge topics, interact with specialized scientists in the field, and develop practical skills that are essential for their future path in research.

University of Ioannina

The University of Ioannina is an internationally recognized institution founded in 1964. It includes 23 departments and more than 32,000 students, making it one of the most vibrant academic centers in Greece. The Summer School will take place on a fully equipped and green campus, where modern facilities blend harmoniously with the surrounding natural environment. Join us to experience knowledge and research firsthand, while enjoying the unique atmosphere of Ioannina and the rich cultural tradition of Epirus.

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at the University of Ioannina has been operating since 1970 and is recognized for its strong research activity. The department is organized into four main sections: Astro-Geophysics, Theoretical Physics, Atomic, Molecular, Nuclear and High Energy Physics, and Solid State Physics and Physics of Materials and Surfaces. It is equipped with modern laboratories and research facilities that are used daily by both students and researchers. Today, the department forms a dynamic academic environment for more than 700 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
